Dr. Johnson’s approach to treatment can be described as a combination of trauma informed Cognitive Behavioral and insight oriented therapies. She believes people are capable of amazing change. Therapy is the place for collaborative, thoughtful evaluation of the self and the tools used to move through life, determining which ones to keep, upgrade, add, or discard. The therapeutic alliance and individualized approach to treatment are critical to creating the space for people to explore and empower themselves to lead a more meaningful and fulfilling life.
In addition to psychotherapy, Dr. Johnson also has extensive experience conducting evaluations of adults and juveniles involved in the legal system. Specific evaluations include protective parenting evaluations, pre-sentence assessment of violence and/or sexual risk, psychosexual evaluations, assessment of adult competence to proceed, and those involving mens rea. Following completion of a forensic evaluation, Dr. Johnson is available for expert witness testimony when needed. She also completes psychological evaluations for diagnostic clarification and treatment recommendations.
Dr. Johnson has also provided psychoeducational presentations addressing the intersection of treatment, residential supports, and forensic issues for adults with intellectual disabilities. She is available for professional consultation and presentation on issues related to forensic evaluation and comprehensive support of those with problematic sexual behaviors, including conscientious community reintegration.
