A psychosexual evaluation is a comprehensive assessment designed to examine an individual’s sexual interests, attitudes, behaviors, and potential risk for sexual abuse or sexual violence towards others. The evaluation also includes detailed treatment recommendations and determines whether the individual would benefit from specific treatment programs aimed at addressing sexual deviance.
At Dr. Robin Lowey & Associates, our forensic psychologists are highly skilled in conducting psychosexual evaluations with both adults and juveniles. We recognize the importance of adapting our evaluation methods to account for the distinct developmental needs of individuals at these different stages of life. Our team also has specialized expertise in assessing the risk of problematic sexual behavior in individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Our forensic psychologists conduct psychosexual evaluations in a variety of contexts, including those ordered by the court following disposition. These evaluations provide an estimate of an individual’s risk for reoffending and offer recommendations for treatment to help reduce that risk. We also conduct evaluations at the request of defense attorneys, who may seek them during the pretrial phase to potentially support their client in negotiating a more favorable plea agreement or sentence. In all cases, our forensic psychologists provide an objective, evidence-based opinion on the individual’s areas of risk and need, ensuring that the evaluation remains impartial and thorough. We draft detailed written reports of our findings and offer expert testimony upon request.
