Executive Function Coaching

Many teens, college students, and adults with ADHD or executive functioning weaknesses understand what they need to do, but struggle to consistently put plans into action. Executive function coaching is a structured, skills-based service designed to help clients build practical systems for organization, time management, planning, task initiation, and follow-through.

For younger children, executive functioning support looks somewhat different. Rather than expecting young children to independently manage complex systems, the focus is typically on helping parents create the structure, routines, expectations, and supports their child needs to be more successful at home and school.

At Lowey Psychological Services, executive functioning support may include coaching for teens, college students, and adults, as well as parent coaching for families of younger children with executive functioning weaknesses.

Executive function coaching is helpful for teens and college students who have difficulty keeping track of assignments, managing school materials, starting homework, planning long-term projects, preparing for tests, or maintaining consistent routines. It is also useful for adults who struggle with procrastination, managing competing responsibilities, creating routines, staying organized, or following through on personal, academic, or work-related goals.

Parent coaching is helpful for families of younger children who struggle with routines, transitions, organization, homework completion, managing materials, following multi-step directions, or completing daily responsibilities. In parent coaching sessions, parents receive support in developing practical strategies to help their child build skills over time while also reducing frustration, conflict, and over-reliance on repeated reminders.

Executive functioning support is not psychotherapy and is not a replacement for mental health treatment. Rather, it is a practical, skill-building service that may be used as an add-on to therapy and/or medication management when clients or families would benefit from more direct support building everyday systems and routines.

Executive functioning support is a private-pay service and is not billed to insurance.
