Samantha “Sam” Shapiro is an Associate Licensed Professional Counselor. She earned her master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and her bachelor’s degree from Princeton University.
Sam specializes in working with clients with ADHD and other executive functioning challenges, helping them feel more effective, organized, and confident in their daily lives. She also enjoys working with high-achieving, intelligent clients who feel caught in unhelpful cycles despite having insight, motivation, and a strong desire for change. Sam supports clients in better understanding the patterns that interfere with follow-through, task initiation, emotional regulation, and self-trust. Many of the clients she works with struggle with procrastination, perfectionism, self-criticism, avoidance, or feeling overwhelmed by responsibilities that seem like they “should” be manageable. In therapy, Sam helps clients move toward greater clarity, flexibility, and self-compassion, while developing practical strategies that support meaningful change both inside and outside of sessions.
Sam approaches therapy eclectically, drawing from a variety of modalities while grounding her work in Control Mastery Theory and the belief that psychological safety is the foundation for meaningful therapeutic change. Her therapeutic style is compassionate, genuine, and engaged. She views therapy as a creative, collaborative, challenging, and dynamic process in which meaningful growth extends beyond the therapy session itself.
As an endurance athlete, Sam also integrates a clinical athlete framework into her work, supporting clients in building lives that feel healthier, happier, and more aligned with who they want to be. She is currently pursuing certification as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC), which will further support her work with athletes around performance goals.
She will be working under the supervision of our Clinical Director, Dr. Kai Syvertsen, and experienced therapist Iryna Zhyrenko, LPC, while accruing hours for independent licensure as a Professional Counselor.
